Specialising in Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Diseases in Adults

Diagnosis
Diagnosis

Beyond the use of technology and pharmacology in our modern day Medicine, advanced diagnosis in the diseases of the lung and the body with lung involvement requires methodical review of a person's life, and how the different elements of "root causes" have contributed to illness and disease.  It is no wonder the great Physicians of our time such as Hippocrates quoted:

"It is more important to know sort of a person has the disease than to know what sort of disease a person has"

(Hippocrates, circa 460-357 BC)

Understanding the underlying cause(s) of illness and disease can empower the patient, especially when the anxiousness and worry of the unknown can disable even the most learned person. When a patient is genuinely willing to heal and committed to health, even a routine clinic visit can be life-changing.  Accordingly, the Physician's role is to confirm, to reassure, to support and to expand the scope of healing so the person is able to surrender more deeply to a renewed life of dignity, love and compassion in the midst of human suffering.

Family conferences can be reserved for people with serious illness and disease who are supported by extended network of family and relatives. This services is greatly appreciated for improving the quality of home-based medical care and care coordination to prevent "carer burn-out".

Being ill with any sort of human diseases is a terrible experience especially when you are emotionally vulnerable, born with disability or at the receiving end of adverse social and economic circumstances.  Yet, illness and disease can often bring opportunities for "Healing", which can be a rehabilitative process in the physical or a deeper "letting go" process of what does not belong to our body.

Medicine is everything we can offer to another human being of a reflection of truth in diagnosis and treatment so he or she is equally able to reclaim the quality of life which is cherished with love, joy and harmony.  If this seems so far-fetched and idealistic, we are far under-estimating the sanctity and sacredness of our human body.  Without a healthy body, there is no joy or even purpose in life.

Where our eyes would often see Medicine through the ever expanding array of pharmacology and miraculous surgical interventions, the quality of how we breathe, live and love can far expand how much and how deeply our human body can heal.  In our current era of technological advances and the global Internet, it is not surprising that more people are asking "what more can I do to improve the health of my lungs?"

Open and collaborative communication is essential in developing a way of Medicine that allows the Physician and the ill person ("the patient") to come to an unified understanding of Healing.  After all, we see the most terrible ills of our human world is caused by not Reading the true essence of what is meant by each other.  The scourge of "miscommunication" is visibly manifested in poor clinical relationship, unhealthy work environment, domestic violence, racial discrimination, civil conflicts and global wars.

Where we as Physicians and Lawyers may see as ill health and litigation, the root cause of disharmony is the undercurrent of every human ill which could be readily healed through our willingness to observe, communicate and action with delicateness and vulnerability that we are all here to represent the difference aspects of truth we all know as One-of-the-Whole.

"Good speech should be marked by the following qualities, in ordered priority:

it should not disturb the mind of the listener; it should be precise, with correct use of language; it should be truthful;

if possible, it should be pleasing to the listener; and if possible, it should be of utility to the listener"

(Bhagwad Gita, Teachings of Krishna)

Although the wisdom manifested by the ancient Sages and the Masters of Wisdom would have helped greatly for human life, the complexity of our societies globally imposes the practicalities of Medicine must also adapt to the multidimensional challenges we are to face as illnesses and diseases continue to affect humanity.  There is no longer the simple linear causation of an illness by an causal factor X, for example.  Where the interplay of diverse and complex causal agents contribute to a person's illness, the Physician must continue to study, learn, develop and deepen his or her absoluteness in caring for humanity.  While he or she may be subject to criticism for being "imperfect", there is no other way for the Physician who is responsible for providing accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

From a place of observation and compassion, the central emphasis of our practice in Respiratory Medicine is providing the very best of Medicine so all people can access the wisdom of what constitutes "Health".  If there is a missing ingredient in our return to health then it would be "Love", therefore our practice theme of "Bringing Love back into the Lungs".

Law & Medicine
Law & Medicine

"Great responsibility carries the responsibility to uphold the sanctity and dignity of the human being that knows the divine truth that each and every human body is an all-encompassing Living Science of the Universal Magnificence, and all human life is to be aligned and moved by the love and light of the Soul"

(Sam Kim, writing for textbook yet to be published)

The Art of Medicine is carried throughout the human history to help humanity heal and restore its collective vitality of health. Through health, the entire society can function harmoniously in its diverse aspects of cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, education, science, religion and politics.  Therefore, the true essence of Law is to ensure Medicine is able to attain her divine potential to offer our society the healing needed to achieve its true vitality of health.  Therefore, to separate Medicine from Healing contradicts the divine purpose of Medicine which can only hold back our society's evolution.

"The Art of Medicine is increasingly incomplete without some detailed expertise in Law practised not in reaction to the assault on truths but in response to what is called upon by the body of humanity continuing its way of return through the absoluteness of love and rising above every moment of collusion, corruption, deception, concealment, forgery and blatant apathy by have's against have not's when the All are of the same and of the Universal"

(Sam Kim, circa August 2017)

It is no longer about the defensive Medicine that many have been practising for the past several decades, but the long-term consequences of practising a model of Medicine which has deterred away from the global perspective of a human being and what constitutes its consciousness. Therefore, Healing in Medicine is incomplete until we can truly understand the true order of protecting the sanctity of a human being against ever-increasing tide of corruption and illusion that threatens the very integrity of Medicine.

"Study in Law will continue until all practicalities of its procedures are mastered, then

Love will open the Way towards the Divine Law"

(Sam Kim, 4 January 2018)

Sam commented that after having studied even the Tort laws in his first year of legal training, one can see the Law can be either be practised as a tool of protection or as the true instrument of harmony, truth and proportion of upholding the sanctity for the parties brought together by a dispute.  When the human perception can alter the course of what is to be "true" justice then the undercurrent theme of Medicine or Law is no different: the truth of what is represented by the physical body (Medicine) or the body of rights (Law).

"Not understanding what is truly meant by the term "integration" represents how lost we are when the fundamental principles of the human body and the love it provides to the human existence is entirely dependent on the harmonious collaboration of all components working together as One without interference, collusion, corruption or even a hint of self-gain but the global unity and survival of the whole"

(Sam Kim, from a series of reflective essays 2012-2018, yet to be published)

Research & Healing
Research & Healing

"The growth of plants forms an excellent parallel to the study of Medicine.  Our characters resemble the soil, our masters' of Medicine precepts the seed; education is the sowing of the seed in season and the circumstances of teaching resemble the climatic conditions that control the growth of plants.  Industrious toil and the passage of time strengthen the plant and bring it to maturity"

(The Canon of Hippocrates in Hippocratic Writings, translation by J Chadwick & WN Mann, 1950, Penguin Classics)

To separate even the notion of "healing" from Medicine is not fully understanding what Medicine truly means for people.  We can either practise Medicine in a linear model of offering diagnosis and treatment in the most mechanical way possible, or truly understand that everything we live and do can either contribute or heal our illnesses and diseases.  From the Physician's perspective, every spoken words and gentle touch of integrity and truth comes with the imprint of love and compassion for another human being.  Therefore, healing is none other than living every day as a Physician that the truth of the body lived in love every single day can allow another person to equally claim love while the medical treatments address the physical ills.

"The body is the marker of all truths"

(Serge Issac Benhayon, Author, Practitioner & Teacher of Healing Arts, circa 1999)

There are writings of great Physicians and Philosophers who have lived throughout our human history and confirmed that healing is an integral part of Medicine. While the advanced countries of our world have traditionally relied on the platform of Evidence-Based Medicine and clinical trials, our global scientific communities are increasingly adopting the wisdom of "mixed method" study designs to address the challenging issues affecting human illnesses and diseases.  If the combined data of symptoms and physiological markers can truly show how a body responds to a specific treatment then the responsibility of Medicine and Science is to present the whole facts rather than confining to a conclusion based on probabilities, or the estimates of significance such as the p-values.

"Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity"

(Hippocrates, circa 460-357 BC)
